Louis Devedeux

Louis Devedeux (1820-1874)

  • Born in Clermont-Ferrand, France in 1820

  • Studied at the School of Fine Arts in Paris under Alexandre Decamps and Paul Delaroche

  • Adept at drawing historical scenes, portraits, eastern landscapes, and religious paintings

  • Exhibited at the Salon between 1858 to 1868, where his works were much admired

  • In 1867, Napoleon III bought “The Slave Traders”, which now hangs in the Museum of Fine Arts in Rennes
